The Origin of Cardiff: The Iron Age 600BC-AD74 Digital Museum Iron Age Bead - This tiny bead is 2,200 years old and was probably worn by an Iron age women as part of a necklace. It was found during excavations at Caerau Hillfort in 2013 by a local volunteer. It is made from colourless glass and is decorated with yellow glass that form three continuous spirals around the circumference of the bead. It is thought to have been manufactured at Meare Lake Village, Somerset. (Photo copyright Viv Thomas). Iron Age Pottery Shard - This is a tiny, 2,000 year old fragment (sherd) from a Late Iron Age pot. Pottery from this time is very rare in Wales and usually only found where Iron Age people lived. It was discovered in a garden in north Ely by a volunteer during the CAER Big Dig along with some charcoal and a burnt animal bone. This almost certainly means that there is a hitherto unknown Iron Age settlement somewhere in north Ely. (Photo copyright CAER Heritage).
